How long does a sugar cane spray tan really last?

The truth about its duration and how to care for it so it stays on your skin.
The tan starts long before the booth
When we talk about spray tanning, it’s easy to think everything happens at the moment of application. The truth is that the result starts to take shape much earlier. Skin preparation is an essential part of the process and makes a huge difference in how the tan looks and how long it lasts.
If you come to Arttan, you should know that we support each client from the very beginning. That’s why we send a pre-appointment guide with clear instructions on how to prepare your skin before coming to the studio. When the skin arrives balanced, clean, and ready, the tan blends better and the result is much more even.
How long does a sugar cane spray tan last?
Under normal conditions, a well-applied and well-maintained tan usually lasts between seven and twelve days. This timeframe is approximate and may vary from person to person. Not all skin types are the same, nor do they renew at the same rate.
Understanding this is key to setting realistic expectations. The tan doesn’t disappear suddenly. It gradually fades as the skin renews itself, and this transition can be almost unnoticeable when the skin is well cared for.
Your skin has its own rhythm
Every skin is different. Some skin types renew more quickly, while others hold color for longer. This natural process directly influences how long the tan lasts and has nothing to do with the quality of the product, but rather with how your skin functions.
That’s why at Arttan we always talk about personalization. Adapting the tan to the skin type and the time of year is what allows the result to look realistic and harmonious.
What you do after matters — a lot
When you get a spray tan, an equally important phase begins. Your daily habits directly influence how the color holds over time. Prolonged exposure to hot water, the use of harsh or exfoliating products, and certain routines can accelerate color fading. Especially on the face and hands, where we tend to wash more thoroughly and apply facial products that remove more color.
On the other hand, skin that is treated gently, well hydrated, and properly cared for will keep the tan longer and allow the color to fade gradually and evenly.
Winter and tanning, an unexpected combination
Although many people associate tanning only with summer, winter can actually be an ideal time to maintain a beautiful-looking tan for longer. The skin is usually less exposed to external factors and, while it may need more hydration, the color remains more stable when properly cared for.
That’s why many of our clients tell us they especially enjoy their tan during this time of year.
More than color, a care experience
At Arttan, we don’t see tanning as something isolated. We see it as part of overall skin care. We care about how each person arrives at the studio, how their skin is treated, and how they feel afterward.
When there is preparation, guidance, and attention to detail, the tan not only lasts longer, but also looks more natural, more elegant, and more seamlessly integrated with the skin.
In the end, a good tan isn’t measured only in days. It’s measured in how it looks, how it evolves, and how it makes you feel.
And that’s what truly makes the difference.
