Common Mistakes with Spray Tanning and How to Avoid Them
If you are considering getting a sugar cane tan or spray tanning, you should know that it is a cosmetic procedure where mistakes can happen that may not guarantee the outcome you expect. That's why it's always important to make sure you know what steps to take before adding some color to your skin.
10 Common Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid doing these actions before going for your tan.
- Not moisturizing the skin days before the session: A common mistake is that the person does not have body hydration habits. This action is important for the skin to help adhere the tan.
- Skipping exfoliation: If this step is skipped, it's likely that the tan will be uneven. Exfoliation is necessary so that the skin is like a canvas before tanning. And very importantly, do not use harsh exfoliants like loofahs or horsehair gloves.
- Going to the session freshly showered: If you go to the session freshly showered, the tan will not develop correctly, because the water and the tanning solution will mix. You should wait 6-8 hours before undergoing the treatment.
- Wearing makeup, deodorant, and perfume: Sometimes, people go to the session with products on their skin, and this will not allow the tan to adhere correctly. In the case of deodorant and perfume, body areas can turn green because they contain alcohol and come into contact with DHA (Dihydroxyacetone).
- Attending the session in inappropriate clothing: The result can be affected if you go to the session in tight clothing such as leggings, jeans, very stretchy shirts, etc. Always wear dark, loose clothing.
- Having body treatments on the same day as the tan: Any treatments that involve skin manipulation with the tan freshly applied will affect the result. That's why it's recommended to have laser sessions, nails, massages, hairdressing done before tanning.
- Not doing a trial run in case of weddings: If you are considering getting a tan for your wedding, I always recommend considering a color test. This will ensure that the bride does not have any allergies and feels comfortable with the tan color.
- Not maintaining aftercare: Once the tan is done and the person showers, they must use an oil-free moisturizing lotion to maintain the color's life (which will last from 7 to 10 days).
- Constantly showering with hot water: In the winter, we love showering with hot water, but be careful, because this temperature affects the life of the tan, causes it to fade faster, and also dries out the skin more.
- Taking long showers and using soap excessively: Did you know that if you use soap daily to get a bit of shine with all the foam, you are dehydrating your skin? and this greatly affects the tan. Basically, you are leaving that skin barrier unprotected... without fat.
